WISER LEADERSHIP
Leadership is Who We Are Not What We Have
How can the ontology of leadership help us understand where current thinking has gone wrong
We live in world of quantification. Don’t believe me just browse the internet for a while. My algorithm fires at me a lot of talk about data, measurement, success and stuff. All, in my opinion, symptoms of the ‘stuffification’ of modern society. A combination of commercialisation and obsession with measurement.
Don’t worry this isn’t an anti-capitalist rant. I like stuff too. But we a) probably have too much stuff and b) what information we have available is often derived from someone with stuff trying to sell us their stuff.
And then we try and prove it all with data.
So my issue here when it comes to understanding leadership is that over many decades, probably more like centuries, we have ‘suffified’ leadership.
- How can I get people to make more stuff?
- How can I measure to ‘rightness’ of my leadership using numbers?
- How can keep my stuff the best?
- How can I move stuff around better?
- What about leadership is the most right for most people?
- How can I predict what these people will do? How can I make them do the right stuff?
