I sort of agree. I think you have mixed up two things here

1. Leaders who are completely narcissistic (i.e. my challenge, I’m solo authentic) and

2. Leaders who treat people like grown ups.

If you are about to embark on a challenge I think it is 100% OK to express your excitement if you recognise not everyone is like that and welcome challenge on your decision.

You can say it’s a family as long as you realise that doesn’t make you the mum/dad of a disfunctional set up where only one person is the boss — everyone gets a say.

It is great to be authentic, but saying you are is wierd. If you are committing to being authentic then you are often committing to the unvarnished truth and all the risks that come with that. That can be a great leader. Or are you are just committing to the idea of authenticity? Telling it how it is when you feel like it? Those would be two.very different leaders.
